Altra Men's Lone Peak 5

The Lone Peak 5.0 hits the sweet spot for minimalist trail running and through hiking shoes. With Altra's signature FootShape (read: wide) toe box and zero-drop geometry, this shoe promotes good posture and technique on the trail while minimizing blisters and foot pain. This translates to a faster pace over more miles. Plus the deep MaxTrac lugs on the outsole provide the best traction you can get on the trail. Get a pair of Lone Peaks and head over Lamark Col for your next Eastside adventure.

    Extremely comfortable trail runner

I appreciate the soft cushion and wide toe box in these shoes, though I probably dont need the toe box to be so wide on technical terrain. I've run with them a lot on steep terrain in the Bridger Range of Montana this summer and the heel cup stays put well. The traction is also formidable. I was running in Salomon Ultra Pros and Arc teryx Novak before the Altra Lone Peak. These Altra shoes are much more forgiving right out of the box compared to those other models, though I do feel they could have a bit more support around the midfoot. I have yet to role an ankle on loose rocks but feel like I'm often on the edge of doing so. Perhaps the wide toe box provides recovery. I've only had them for a few months so I cant speak to durability and longevity. Arc Teryx shoes feel apart in weeks! I'd give the Altra's 4.5 stars so far - I just wish they had a bit more support/stiffness in the midfoot. I also usually purchase 12.5/46.5 and had to go down a half size. I had a bit too much room in a 12.5. The 12 is much better. Not sure if that's just an issue for larger sizes or not.
