The Katadyn BeFree filter is an excellent solution for back-country water filtration. The BeFree consists of a collapsible HydraPak water bladder that is easy to fill in any stream or lake and a filter top used for drinking. Apply a little pressure to the bladder to drink clean, safe water. One of the excellent aspects of this product is that if the filter gets clogged with debris from your water source, the EZ Clean membrane is very straightforward to flush. Just attach the filter to a partially filled water bladder and shake or swish the filter in a stream or lake. The empty bladder compresses down, so it doesn't take up room when you're not using it. The filter comes with a 0.6L, 1.0L, or 3.0L bladder.
If your filter stops working, 99% of the time an overnight soak in a liter of water with a teaspoon of white vinegar will unclog the BeFree. It is generally mineral deposits from the source water or hard tap water that is the culprit.
This filter lacks quality, flexibility, and is expensive. Get the Sawyer Squeeze. It checks all the boxes.
Worked great. No stomach bugs so far...drank out of Death Valley seeps with obvious cattle, horse, and big horn usage. Was two weeks ago and still feeling good. Was nice and package/durable....
